ONE small REVIEW: Talent is Overrated

Talent is Overrated

Talent is Overrated and the book is Overrated.

- No one is born as a manager, webmaster, engineer, doctor. You can learn everything.
- Having some modicum of talent is a necessary, but condition for success.
- Anyone can be good… and anyone can be better.
- Mozart became Mozart by working furiously hard. Same Tiger Woods. Same Steve Ballmer.
- What you want – really want – is fundamental because deliberate practice is a heavy investment.

small SUMMARY: 2/5: Talent is Overrated is another example of the long book. The author should write 50-page manifesto. The same idea is used from the beginning to the end without any action for “the users” like me.

Run 500 km, Lose 14 kg in 6 Months and Read 20 Books.

46 Hours Later.

Have you ever wanted to prepare to the marathon, lose some weight and have a lot of free time?

During the last 6 months I:

- Started running and run a halfmarathon.
- Lost 14 kg (30.8 lbs).
- Read almost 20 business books.
- Had a lot of things done before 10 AM.

That’s my new lifestyle design. Small steps for big goals.
Let me tell you how I did that…

The Beginnings

When I was returning from my holidays in May 2011 with my wife I realized something. That was on a highway from Berlin to Warsaw.

I was listening the audiobook which was recommended by I-don’t-remember-who.
That was the “4-Hour Workweek”.

Second Habit: Everyhing Has Its Own Place

Everything Has Its Own Place

Finally. Peace at Work.

I’ve ended my first month as an early bird. That was an amazing experience. Every day for a whole month I had my alarm set at 5:30 AM.

First Habit – Summary

First days were very hard. That strange feeling after hearing an alarm and that strange feeling when I didn’t know what to do with myself. Some kind of loss. Strange to describe.

After a few days I started to realize that I have an amazing oportunity from myself. The oportunity to do something special. After reading Zen To Done by Leo Babauta I started to implement MIT (Most Important Task) to my life and even somethimes I had a task done before 6:30 AM. Amazing feeling when you have your daily job done before a sunrise.

Also as a preparation to the marathon I started running a few days in the week at 6 AM. After writting my MIT and after short “thinking session” I was ready to run 5/10 kilometers.

At the end of the November I wake up without an alarm clock just before 5:30 and I’m ready to get things done, have fun and experience life. So… it’s time for the second habit.

Second Habit – Everything Has Its Own Place

Everything has its own Place” is going around me for years. I’m a minimalistic person and have fewer and fewer things. Unfortunatelly I feel a little bit uncomfortable. I left my cellphone in the kitchen, my notebook is somewhere in the car, my pants are hanging on a chair and so on.

ONE small REVIEW: Delivering Happiness

The Real Book About Delivering Happiness

- Live and Work on purpose. Working and living without a goal is not worth it and fail.
- Being happy is the main goal of everyone of us. Why don’t share with others your happiness.
- Build your business on core values.
- Luck is only the word. The real luck are people that share your vision.

small SUMMARY: 5/5: I was smiling, I was crying. I was inspired. The amazing book. Worth reading and specially listening (read by Tony and his employes). A great story about begining, bad choises, good choises and happy ending. And everything has only one goal: delivering happiness.

Zen To Done. The Best System To Get Things Done.

Zen To Done

One System To Rule Them All

I was always a big fan of getting things done. I had a mindmap for big goals, Nozbe for daily tasks and projects, a few inboxes. I used to spend one evening with planning. Additionaly I was improving my knowledge about the GTD system by David Allen. At the end of the day I had too much time spend on planning and less time on getting things done.

The Most Important Thing – Get Things Done

I’d heard about Leo Babauta many times. About minimalism, the MIT idea, ZTD, etc. But always there was something strange with that. You know… GTD by David Allen is complex and you must have many tools and other “stuff”. How that simple idea like ZTD can be possible in that fast world?
The true is -> it is. For me. I was overhelmed by GTD and I bought Zen To Done by Leo Babauta. After two hours of listening I was shocked.

ONE small REVIEW: Made to Stick

Why Some Ideas Stick?

- Simplicity – Idea must be simple. Watch Inception.
- Unexpectedness – Real idea should be presented when “clients” are not prepared.
- Concreteness – Specific, concrete ideas with details are stickier.
- Credibility – Authority or Anti-Authority is needed.
- Emotions – Emotions and the Maslow’s hierarchy are the keys to success.
- Stories – Be real, good story is a must.

small SUMMARY: 2/5: The concept of the book is great, but… there was something missing. I had really big problem with ending this book. The book is so simple and so boring sometimes. For sure should be shorter. A few good ideas with a few examples and that’s it.

ONE small REVIEW: Zen To Done

Really Get Things Done

- Small Notebook is the best way to capture things.
- Everything should be done as simple as possible.
- The best way to be productive is to find one single goal and do everything to achieve it.
- One habit at a time.
- Find passion. There is no other way to be happy with your job.

small SUMMARY: 5/5: Minimalistic version of ZTD is amazing and really fits to my idea of life and to my new lifestyle desing. Amazing and short book. Much better to listen/read after GTD by David Allen.

Information about all my books you can find in the library section.

Travel and Life

I want to travel. Period. Almost everyone says that once a week. Everyone wants. Everyone can. Me too. I decided to spend two evenings with my lovely wife and decide what countries/regions we want to visit and where we want to live for a few months/years.

From the list of 195 countries and 62 self-proclaimed independent places we chose 82 places that we would like to visit.
During creation of the list we spent a lot of amazing time with my wife (love you) and learn a lot about the world. Great experience.

Where We Want To Live For a While

From the list we chose 15 countries where we want to live for a while. Taste the real culture. Eat what autochthons eat. Live. Smile. Cry. Why? See the photo below each country.

1. Argentina
Travel the World
2. Canada

3. China
